Music Appreciation...

Need some new material to add to your lullaby set list? Sing along with these great albums from the giggle website and in 6-8 months you are guaranteed at least one standing ovation. The folks at Rockabye Baby! have reworked some of the best songs from Bob Marley, The Beatles and U2 into soft instrumental arrangements perfect for “rocking” your baby to sleep. Hold the applause, bring on the snores!

A Presidential Palette...

We were very sad to learn our favorite magazine Domino (& their brilliant website!) will be officially ceasing publication. So until they take down the site we will be trolling it top to bottom for every bit of design knowledge we can get!

Today we stumbled upon a summary by Nick Olsen, Domino’s Deal Hunter, of an awe-inspiring article originally in Architectural Digest comparing the decorating choices of Jacqueline Kennedy vs. Nancy Reagan. Standing out among the scenes is Nancy Reagan’s office. The perfect shade of celadon (& monochromatic carpeting), wonderful moldings and gorgeously staged botanical prints to the ceiling make this a room to take note of. We love how they put molding over a chic wallpaper below the chair rail & a separate vertical textured wallpaper above the chair rail.

The palette is youthful & playful enough for a growing kid’s room (or bathroom) and what a fun day you will have at the library checking out books on flora & fauna! Make color copies of pages that seem to peak your child’s interest and frame for an inexpensive and very educational wall-scape.

Pop Star...

We love looking to to make our family photos into Lichtenstein or Warhol-esque portraits (we especially love the idea of using the images for our annual Holiday Card too!) and now they are offering a new design that has "history in the making" written all over it. Submit a photo of your child (or dog, etc.) and in 2 weeks you will have a MoMA worthy portrait inspired by the famed image of President Obama by street artist Shepard Fairey. Just a gentle reminder to your little one that you are rooting for them all the way!

Give props to their props...

While scrolling through the Room & Board website we noticed the adorably inspired artwork above this bed. We loved the idea of spending a lazy afternoon photographing our little ones with their favorite “everyday” items in this very creative composition! The colorful bowl or sippy cup they insist on using at every meal resting on their head (like shown) is a great shot & would be wonderful in a grouping with other items such as their favorite toys or comfort items. An inexpensive frame & wide matting create a professional, sophisticated look; while providing a wonderful way to document their favorite things & how old they were when you couldn’t pry these items from their chubby little fingers.

When I was a kid...

We recently spotted these precious vintage paper doll pieces of artwork from The Land of Nod and our mind began racing with ideas! We can’t wait to dig out some of our keepsake toys from our own childhood and see what can be made into wall art for a kid’s room. Hanging high on a wall & out of sticky fingers is the perfect spot to display something special, hopefully passing that Christmas morning feeling on to you and your little one after they ask about the old antique hanging in their room (jk!).
