Privacy Please...

Every parent needs a little retreat every once in a while, but did anyone ever think maybe our kids need one too on occasion? We love these visually pleasing tents from Restoration Hardware's baby & child specialty store. The patterns have a classy modern feel and won't detract from any of your sophisticated adult spaces. The perfect place to witness their imaginations at work... one day it's a quiet reading area the next it's a prop in a full staged production of Pocahontas!

Stripes make everything look good...

Whether seen in the magazines, stores or in the movies, we are always envious of rooms that feature the perfect stripped rug. Crisp stripes are playful enough for a child's room and classy enough for your beach chic playroom or family room. We found this stylish (& economical for only $110!) Swedish Stripe Rug on Rachel Ashwell's Shabby Chic website. Her charming asthetic make any of her pieces easy to incorporate into a space for a precious girl or dapper boy.

On a roll...

Little did we know, Brocade Home offers a beautiful assortment of wallpapers that satisfy our current craving for large damasks & medallions. Make a unique accent wall or paper an entire bathroom or small nook for a feeling that you are living in a fancy boutique hotel. Not your grandmother's wallpaper (although they do offer a flocking on foil design!).

Consider these Colors...

It seems like everywhere we look, we keep coming across this classy (but playful) palette. Purple and Green is this year's hot new couple & a handsome one at that. Everything from amethyst to lavender is styled with hunter green to kelly green (and everything in between!). These settings from the newest Neiman Marcus Home catalog demonstrate how to perfectly pull together a space using these hues. Definitely a new contender for a "big girl" room transformation. Modern but elegant... just like the type of woman you hope she becomes!

Movie & a Makeover...

We are counting down the days until the Oscars and thought a tribute to one of our favorite nominees was in order. The Curious Case of Benjamin Button was an enchanting movie and is whole-heartedly our top choice for Best Picture. Most of the movie is set in two of our most favorite cities: New Orleans & New York City and even amongst imaginative contrasts between time periods and geography a “young at heart” feeling still emerges.
We put this group of design elements together that could make a lovely & inspired space for your child representing many parts of this stunning film. Enjoy!

A proper vanity for a future dancer’s dressing room… Madeline Play Vanity from Pottery Barn Kids.

An iron bed reminiscent of N.O.L.A’s historic iron cornstalk fences… Kinsington Bed from Garnet Hill.

A rug full of what else?? Buttons!... Viewpoint Kids Kaleidoscope Leaf area play rug from ModernNursery.com.

Escape with a Seascape!... “Sailing on the emerald coast” Original Watercolor from Etsy.com.

Hallway Homage...

In the latest O at Home (Winter 2008) designer Brian Patrick Flynn demonstrates how an old family snapshot can be transformed into a distinctive wall covering (and an even better conversation piece!). Flynn took his image to a digital printing company (such as Duggal, http://www.duggal.com/) and had it blown up to 11x13 feet and printed onto fade-resistant vinyl. We love the commemorative quality of this design idea, especially for a playroom or family rec room where togetherness is most important. Other subjects that would make a great statement wall: pictures of the family’s favorite vacations or historic ancestors.
