Now an updated, large scale version of this dapper design is available as part of a new bedding introduction by Pottery Barn Kids. Dress it up as preppy or hip, but always perfect for a little gentleman.

Let there be Light...

Overhead lighting in nurseries can be harsh compared to the soft and sweet decor. Wall sconces are a much better fit for their ability to diffuse much gentler light. These new giraffe ceramic sconces by Jonathan Adler would make adorable statement pieces flanking a changing table or crib. They are hard wired and come in Right & Left facing models. We love!

Lick your Lichtenstein Clean...

If your little one is begging for a Superman or Spiderman room & you cringe when thinking of the matchy matchy sheets & decor that are on the market, check out these pop-art, comic inspired plates (reminiscent of Lichtenstein's famous lithographs) recently introduced by cb2.

Plate walls have been all the rage since Kelly Wearstler's famous arrangement on an outdoor wall at the Viceroy Hotel in Santa Monica and we love how the idea can be transferred into a youthful setting. Cluster a few of these with solid bedding & accessories and you will be your child's superhero.

Just a housekeeping note...

Every home has a well used desk, corner, or even room devoted to the keeping the family well cared for, organized and on schedule. When thinking of the perfect "message center" for this multi-purpose space, we immediately thought: chalkboard paint! But with a full wall of chalkboard comes a full floor of chalk dust. While browsing the wonderful website, babybliss, our concerns were put to rest. These wall decals work like a beautiful "chalkboard sticker" in a striking Rococo design and it's small size will create less dust. Use multiple in an arrangement (i.e. one for every member of the household) and write reminders, messages & encouraging words for all passing through the command center!

I want a Man-ly Meal...

How can you not want to support a company formed by 4 Dads and creates products for babies & children that combine function, sustainability & high-design? Bloom was born to fulfill all of these categories and skimming through their website we've added a number of things to our wish-list! We specifically appreciated the Nano Urban High-Chair made with smaller urban spaces in mind. It's flat-fold mechanism works like magic for lightweight & easy storage and at approximately $200, it's a respectable decision for mealtime happiness! Pick your color & pull up a (high)chair.

Put it in Neutral...

It's very hard to find gender neutral bedding for nurseries without going super modern or super cutesy. We were thrilled to spot this fun offering from Forty Winks and to top it all off - it adheres to our "only organic bedding" policy! While browsing the very significant Earth Friendly section of PoshTots.com, we feel for this humorous palette & the unconventional sweet message it exudes. "Sleepyhead," "Zonked" and "Snoozer" are among other phrases embroidered along the bumper and crib skirt. Other luxurious touches include embroidered stars, polka dot ties, and lime green corduroy piping. Set includes Moses basket, crib skirt (16.25" drop), bumper, blanket and one fitted crib sheet. Pure fun & pure materials!

Eat Green!... School Lunches

Recently the New York Times did a wonderful profile on Michelle Obama's focus on healthy living, specifically healthful eating habits of fresh, unprocessed and locally grown foods. One step further to making changes in the food you eat at home is making changes to how you prepare & package your child's school lunches. Pottery Barn Kids has some great reusable lunch bags & boxes that will actually involve your children in everyday eco-friendly decision making. Bringing them into the process will help stir their imagination for other ways to live an environmentally conscious lifestyle (& did we mention they are cool & coordinated too?!).

Tips from Pottery Barn Kids on School Lunches going Green:
  • A good reusable lunch box or bag eliminates the need to waste 180, or more, brown paper bags over the course of a school year. Plus, the insulation helps keep food fresh.
  • Be sure to pack two cloth napkins – one can be used as a placemat to keep food off dirty lunch tables. 100% recycled paper napkins are a good alternative.
  • Use reusable storage containers to pack sandwiches, snacks or leftovers. This will save hundreds of plastic bags per child, per year from winding up in landfills.
  • Make sure you use a reusable bottle rather than juice boxes or plastic water bottles.
  • Pack fresh fruit like apples, bananas and oranges for snacks because they need no wrap at all – nature has provided it already.

Catchy Catch-alls...

Prevent clutter with these catchy catch-alls by Lucy and Michael! We found these stylish & sturdy looking pieces on The Polkadot Platypus and loved them immediately for their funky patterns & became overjoyed when we read they measured 18x15x17; a perfect size for loose toys & comfort items. Take them on the go or group together in a play area. Sling one over your arm & gather all that is under-foot in seconds. Clutter-free (& coordinated) is the way to be!
